Mourinho: "I Don't Watch Soap Operas"
Jose Mourinho has emphatically—and characteristically—shut down speculation linking him to a shock Bernabéu return. The rumor mill went into overdrive this week following the sacking of Xabi Alonso after a Super Cup defeat, and the rocky start of interim boss Álvaro Arbeloa, who oversaw a Copa del Rey exit to Albacete.
Despite the managerial vacuum in the Spanish capital, Mourinho, currently working in Portugal, wasted no time in distancing himself from the drama. Speaking to Sport TV, he delivered a classic Mourinho soundbite:
"Don't count on me for soap operas. There are good soap operas, but they're very long; you miss one or two episodes and you lose track. Don't count on me, because I don't watch soap operas."
Chaos in the Capital
The "soap opera" Mourinho is referring to has been a brutal week for Los Blancos, even by their high-drama standards:
- Sunday: A painful loss in the Spanish Super Cup final to Barcelona.
- Monday: Xabi Alonso fired after less than 8 months in charge.
- Wednesday: New coach Arbeloa suffers a humiliating Copa del Rey loss to Albacete.
- Saturday: A toxic 2-0 win over Levante where the fans brutally turned on their own players.
Klopp in the Wings?
With Mourinho ruling himself out, the spotlight has shifted to Jurgen Klopp. The former Liverpool strategist is still a free agent and has been flagged by German outlet Bild as a top contender for the summer if Arbeloa can't right the ship. For now, Arbeloa retains the board's backing, tasked with the unenviable job of closing the gap to Barcelona amidst the noise.
